Favorites menu option missing

Issue - The Favorites menu option might be missing, and you may not even find the Favorites when you click the Favorites button.

Cause - This issue may occur due to some third party add-ons or IE Tweaks that you install.

Resolution - To resolve this issue, you need to set the DWORD value to 0 for the registry key “NoFavorites” in the below registry path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftInternet ExplorerRestrictions

If you are a newbie and don’t want to play with the registry, you can download and run the Raghu’s Registry Tweaks:

To Enable the Favorites menu option and other options- Download

To Disable the Days in History option - Download

Simply download, unzip the .zip files, and run the .reg file. Ensure to take backup of the registry before you run the .reg file.

Display Menu bar to top in IE8 Window

Issue - The menu bar is displayed down to the address bar, instead on top.

Reason - This is not an issue and is by design.

Solution - You can force the menu to be displayed on the top, instead of in the middle of all the buttons. To do this, create this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerToolbarWebBrowser

Create a dword value named ITBar7Position and set the value to 1. To set it at the default position, set value to 0.

If you don’t want to play with the registry, download and run the corresponding .reg file.

Move menu bar to top, Restore menu bar to default location

Issue - The menu options are not displayed in Internet Explorer 8.

Reason - This is not an issue and is by design. To view the menu options, hold the Alt key.

Resolution - To enable the menu options to be displayed always, you should enable to “AlwaysShowMenus” key to 1. Follow the steps:

1. Press Win + R keys.

2. Enter regedit and press Enter.

3. Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain

To enable, create a dword value named AlwaysShowMenus and set it to 1, and to auto-hide, set the dword value to 0.

If you don’t want to play with the registry, download and run the corresponding .reg fix.

Favorites Bar option in IE8 is grayed out

Issue - When you right-click on the IE tab to enable Favorites Bar, you may find the option grayed out.


Reason - This issue occurs, if the Group policy editor options are forced.

Solution:
To resolve the issue, perform the following:

1. Hold Win key and press R (To open the Run dialog box)
2. Type gpedit.msc and click OK.

3. Under Local Computer Policy, Expand Computer Configuration, and Administrative Templates.

4. Goto Windows Components

5. Double-click Internet Explorer
6. Scroll down to Turn off Favorites bar


7. Double-click it.
8. Select Disabled, or Not Configured option.


9. Click OK.

NOTE: You should have administrative previlages to perform this tasks.

Close and open Internet Explorer. You will see the option back.
