Review - My Favorite IE Add-on: ZoomInto for Internet Explorer

No comments December 5th, 2009

While searching for some good photo related IE Add-ons, I found ZoomInto add-on, which is one of the free All-in-One Image Zooming Add-on for Internet Explorer.

It extends zooming and photo editing capabilities to all .jpg web images. It also has option to custom crop images to keep only what you want. Print, Save and Email web images for friends and family.

I personally like this Add-ons. You may also try the same and leave your feedback for the other IETips.net users.

Review - Quero Toolbar - The New Web Experience

Quero Toolbar - The New Web Experience

I was looking out for some awesome toolbar which will not spam my PC with all junk add-ons. It should be plain and user friendly. After an hours googling, I was able to find the tool bar.

A few facts about the Quero toolbar that I liked in my first experience:

Easy to use options - The Quero toolbar replaces the standard IE toolbar and has more easy navigation options. You will be able to quickly enable/disable any option using the drop down option list:

Highlighting the search terms - The Highlight option quickly highlights the search terms, so that you can easily pick the site that you are looking for. No hassles to read the descriptions/notes of every hit.

Toggle to the desired Search engine quickly - The moment I want to search for any new term or information, I start recollecting the various Search engines that I know. It has become easy now since I need not memorize all, as Quero toolbar gives you an option to select the desired Search engine:

Resize the Window quickly - It also has the option to select the required screen resolution and quickly resets the IE window to the selected size. Even though this can be done manually, I was not successful in sizing it to a perfect resolution. Alas! it is simple now.

Easy to configure options - Enabling/Disabling, resetting any option is so easy through Quero toolbar options. It has separate tabs for all the main features, where you can set the desired.

The only recommendation from me to the developers is to add Bing.com since it has become a favorite search engine for many people like me who support MS products. Also, as mentioned, this toolbar doesn’t have any SPAM, No additional forced add-ons, and Ads too. IETips.net recommends Quero toolbar.

IE8 crashes at startup

No comments November 13th, 2009

Recently, one of IETips.net users have reported that her IE8 is crashing on startup and the issue persists even after reverting to IE7. She was much annoyed with the behavior of IE.

The solution that was recommended by me helped in resolving the same. Here is what I’ve recommended:

1. Uninstall IE8 from Add/Remove programs (This will take out the other updates related to IE8 too)

2. Uninstall any third party tool bars.

3. Download IE8 from MS website and install it.

However, to isolate the root cause, first I recommend to run IE in No Add-on Mode. This will help you to identify if the issue is with IE or any of the add-on that you have installed. Once you were able to start IE without any issues in No Add-on mode, it means an add-on which you have installed/enabled is causing the issue. You should perform a trail and error check to identify the add-on which is causing the issue and take out that add-on.

Also, this issue causes due to some free AntiVirus programs that are installed. Disable it, if one is installed on your PC.

For any further assistance regarding the IE8 crash at startup issue, follow this thread.

popup says IE 8 is not installed

No comments October 23rd, 2009

I was looking some cool IE Addons, and thought of looking at the IE Add-on website. The moment I keyed in the website using my Firefox browser, I’ve got a pop-up that says my IE is still not updated and prompted me to Download IE8. I was surprised to see that message and immediately checked the version of my IE browser :) No problem, I’ve IE8 only.. but was baffled for some time and started googling out for a solution in the MS website.

Atlast, I was able to find some solution at http://social.answers.microsoft.com by Jack - Support Engineer, MSFT, Moderator who says “This is happening because IE8 is not showing as an installed update even though you have it installed on your machine.  When Automatic Updates runs, it compares the list of installed updates on your machine against the list of available updates.  Since IE8 is not shown as installed on your machine it triggers the pop up “nag” screens to appear on your machine.

I’ve immediately checked the Windows update to find if IE 8 is installed. Strange, I can see it in the list.

This made me to research on this issue further and atlast after an hour was able to find a solution. I just uninstalled the current version of IE8, and downloaded it and installed back. It didn’t prompt the message again :)
