Uninstall IE8 in Windows 7

Windows 7 allows you to disable/uninstall Internet Explorer. Follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Goto Control Panel and find out the “All Control Panel Options”
  2. Click “Programs and Features”
  3. Click “Turn Windows Features On or Off” in the left pane.
  4. Find out Internet Explorer 8 listed in the program list.
  5. uncheck the option.


Click OK and rebook the system.

Once the system is restarted, you will not see any instances of IE8.

Open in new Tab/Window option does not work in Internet Explorer 8

Issue:

When you try to open a link in a new Window or Tab, you might not see any response from Internet Explorer 8. This may mostly happens after upgrading to Internet Explorer 8

Cause:

This issue happens due to one of the following:

1. Insupportive Add-ons.
2. Corrupted IE files.

Resolution:

To resolve this issue, perform the following:

Disabling the Add-ons:

1. click Tools, Manage Add-ons
2. Select Enable or Disable Add-ons option
3. Disable all the add-ons that are under “currently being used by Internet Exploreroption.

To disable the add-on, click each add-on and click disable radio button at the bottom.

4. click OK and restart Internet Explorer when prompted

This should resolve the issue.

If the issue still persists, you may proceed with the below solution:

Re-registering the actxprxy.dll  file:

actxprxy.dll file is a module that contains functions used for Marshaling of ActiveX COM interfaces and is used by Internet Explorer.

Follow the Instructions below to re register the actxprxy.dll :

1. Click Start, Run and type cmd and press enter.

In the command Prompt window type Regsvr32 actxprxy.dll and press Enter key.

If the command was successfully executed, You will receive the message DllRegisterServer in actxprxy.dll succeeded window.

Restart your IE window and it should now be able to open Hyperlinks in either new Window or new tab.

Keyboard shortcut to open a favorite website

Description - You may want to create a shortcut key to open your favorite website with a shortcut key.  This is possible by assigning a short cut key to the saved favorite.

Applies to - Tested on IE 6.x and later versions.

Procedure:

1. Open Internet Explorer

2. Right-click on the saved Favorite.

3. Select Properties.

4. Click in the Shortcut key text box (Where it shows none) and press the key that you want to use as shortcut:

Once the shortcut key is assigned, the Shortcut key area should look like as follows:

Click Apply, Ok.

Now you will be able to open the website using the shortcut key that was assigned.

Run/Disable IE8 Intro Tour

Issue - You may want to Run or Disable to IE8 Introduction Tour that is displayed when you first open Internet Explorer 8.

Cause - The intro tour will be disabled, when you close the Windows. However, some times the tour may pop-up every time you open Internet Explorer.

Resolution - To resolve this issue, download the corresponding registry file and run it.

To run the Intro tour - Download

To disable the Intro tour - Download

This will resolve the issue.

Advanced Options Under Internet Options Grayed out

Issue - You may find all the check boxes, restore to default button, and reset button grayed out as shown in the below screen shot under Tools -> Internet Options:

Cause - This issue happens, when you run any IE tweaking utilities, or by some third party security programs.

Solution - To resolve this issue, you need to change the DWORD value to 0 for the following Reg key “Advanced” under the following path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftInternet ExplorerControl Panel

If you dont find the key, you can go ahead and create a new one.

If you are not so good at Windows registry and afraid to make any changes, make use of Raghu’s easy to use registry tweaks.

To Disable the Advanced options - Download

Simply download, unzip, and run the .reg file. Ensure to backup the registry before you run the tweak.
